George River Solo 2018

Day 4
Start Time: 7/18/2018 0:00
Duration: 0:00
Distance / Total (km): 0.0 / 46.0

I woke up around 5:00am for a weather check, both a visual and a 48 hour forecast via InReach, breezy with a chance of rain on both counts. I went back to sleep unsure of my plan for the day. Slept on and off until early afternoon and by the time I gave serious consideration to moving on it was really too late in the day. I did a bit of organizing for a possible early departure in the morning and made a light meal. There had been a bit of sun during the afternoon which warmed the tent, as sunset approached the temperature started to drop toward the single digits.

Day 5
Start Time: 7/19/2018 0:00
Duration: 0:00
Distance / Total (km): 0.0 / 46.0

I woke at 7:00am to the sound of waves sloshing onto the shore. An updated weather forecast predicts increasing wind with rain for the day ahead diminishing the following day. At 11:00am I went out to make some tea and oatmeal, it was cool and mostly sunny and in spite of a fairly brisk wind there were swarms of deer flies. Back in the tent the sun was bringing the temperature over the 30°C mark. The Marmot is an excellent tent but ventilation is not one of its strong points. By mid-afternoon the clouds moved in bringing rain and increasing winds. I munched on some snacks and lay about for a few hours. Around 8:30 the rain stopped so I went outside get some cheese and make some tea. It’s been 10 days since I left home, the past couple of days have allowed me to catch up on my sleep but I’m really getting tired of being stuck inside a small tent.
