Day 34
Start Time: 8/17/2018 0:00 PM
Duration: 0:00
Distance / Total (km): 0 / 423.5

I woke up at 5:30am; it was cold and wet outside but not too windy. At 7:30am it cold, wet and windy. At 9:30am it was less cold and less wet but the wind had picked up considerably. At 11:30 there were a few patches of blue sky. It was not so cold but the wind was even stronger and had fully shifted to the northwest. I do not think I will be moving anywhere today, I have space in the cabin, it is almost bug free, I am dry and warm. There is also the rest of my fish that I cooked up and consumed as “brunch”.

Because of the wind, the bugs were not too bad outside so I was able to wander around and check out all the buildings. There is a short section of swift water just past the camp, the wind from the north was whipping up whitecaps, was the current creating an illusion or was it really that strong? I don’t think so given the way the trees are bending and the cabin creaks on every gust. This is getting incredibly frustrating, my 12th layover day with all but one because of poor weather, what I really need is 4 or 5 days in a row of nice sunny and calm conditions.

I did a full inventory, as far as food, I had enough to last at least 2 weeks with no rationing whatsoever, with some small adjustments I could easily stretch that by a couple of days. Supplies of fuel and smokables were plentiful; the only thing slightly deficient was battery power, as I knew I would be using the GoPro once I was back on the river. I frittered away the rest of the afternoon snacking, studying maps, charging my devices, repacking and relaxing.

The wind began to die as evening arrived and the cloud cover returned. I decided to give another Happy Yak meal a try, this one, Braised Pork & Farfalle Pasta with White Wine Mushroom Sauce, it is dehydrated not freeze-dried and requires actual “cooking”, a meal in a pot rather than a meal in a bag. I would say, “Worth the effort” or maybe worth the extra fuel required, as there really was not much “work” other than a bit of stirring. It was quite tasty and filling as a single serving (but expensive as I recall).

I should get a weather update tonight or in the morning….passed out so it will be in the morning!
